First Ladies: Political Role & Public Image
February 11, 2006 - May 7, 2007

In 2006, the Missouri History Museum was proud to host First Ladies: Political Role and Public Image, a traveling exhibition on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. Hosting this exhibit gave us the opportunity to look in our own collections for artifacts related to former First Ladies. An online exhibit shows a sampling of artifacts within the Museum Collections that have a St. Louis connection to the First Ladies. These items were not seen in the First Ladies exhibition, the exception being the Grant bodice, which joined the Smithsonian artifacts while on exhibit at MHM. Each of these items help to tell the story of First Ladies in Missouri, whether they lived here at one time, or just traveled through.
