A Soldier of the Revolution (Grades: 6 to 8)
Program Type: History to Go

Hear the story of Joseph Plum Martin, a New England patriot who enlists as a soldier at the age of fifteen and spends the next seven years fighting for his fledgling country. Accompanied by his constant companions, “cold, hunger and fatigue,” Martin sees action on Long Island, New York; in Germantown and Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania; on the plains of Monmouth, New Jersey; and at the Siege of Yorktown, Virginia. He also has the pleasure of wintering at Valley Forge during the “starving times” and at Morristown, where the largest amount of snow fell during his winter encampment there than in any other winter of the entire eighteenth century.
