Veuve Chouteau (Grades: 4 to Adult)
Program Type: History to Go
The Louisiana Purchase changed everything, but most especially for St. Louis’s French Creole fur traders. Madame Chouteau has just received news of the Louisiana Purchase. Even though she is concerned, she quickly develops a plan. This program explores the multinational colonial heritage of North America—focusing on the contrast between Franco-Spanish and Anglo-American attitudes toward the frontier, colonization, and social roles of minorities and women.
(GLE: 1.2, 5, 6, 1.5, 1.6; SS 1.6, 2.1, 1.8, 1.5, 1.2)
