St. Louis African American History & Genealogy Workshops

Whether you're a novice or an enthusiast, join us for ongoing workshops designed to develop basic skills in gathering, preserving, researching and publishing the history, genealogy and culture of people of African descent int he St. Louis region.

On April 24, the workshop features the 30-minute film, Oh Freedom After While: The Missouri Sharecropper Protest of 1939.  The film is based on the life of Owen Whitfield, a black sharecropper who rallied both black and white sharecroppers in hopes of creating better conditions for farm workers.  A discussion will follow led by Shirley Farmer, Whitfield's daughter.
