From the Valley of the Kings to Philae: Ancient and Modern Pilgrimages
This lecture, presented by Dr. Eugene Cruz-Uribe, professor of history at Northern Arizona University, deals with a series of research projects in Egypt focusing on the subject of ancient pilgrimages to religious and other associated sites. Issues discussed include the pilgrimage routes in ancient Egypt, why the Egyptians went on pilgrimages, and how the Christians began to emulate "pagan" pilgrimage practices.
