Telling Our Stories
brochure: telling our stories
African American families fought segregation in their local communities for decades before the Civil Rights movement.  Telling Our Stories encompasses a series of workshops that will serve as a creative forum for both black and white St. Louis-area residents to express their personal experiences with segregation.

Participants in the Telling Our Stories workshops will have the opportunity to share their experiences through dance and other forms of artistic expression at a culminating performance in the MacDermott Grand Hall on Tuesday, April 13.  Refreshments will be provided.

Contact Ann Rothery at (314) 935-3389 or arothery@wustl.edu with your interest or questions about participation.

The catalysts for this project are Gail Milissa Grant's book, At the Elbows of My Elders (published by the Missouri History Museum) and a dance piece that pays homage to Rosa Parks, to be performed at Washington University's Edison Theatre.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
