From Phrygian Capital to Roman Fort: Recent Excavations at Gordian
Famous as the home of the legendary King Midas and the place where Alexander the Great cut the Gordian Knot, the City of Gordian was the capital of the Phrygian Kingdom, which existed from the 11th-7th century BCE. Since 1990, excavations have uncovered more than 5,000 years of human activity. Yet still unanswered questions regarding aspects of the town's physical makeup led to the initiation of a new ten-week project that occurred in 2004-2005. Dr. Andrew L. Goldman, associate professor of the History Department at Gonzaga University, presents this program.
