Welcome
to the Missouri Historical Society Press!
Our
mission is to expose our readers—through the books we publish, our magazine, Gateway, and our online publication, Voices,—to perspectives of St. Louis
and Missouri not usually introduced in simple history lessons. Mining
both the historical and contemporary cultural, social, and political issues
of our region, we strive to publish stories that resonate with our community
and highlight the common heritage we all share.
MHS Press books have won awards from the American Association of Museums
and the Missouri Conference on History.
We invite you to peruse our list as we take you from the birth of St.
Louis in 1764 to the 1998 home-run record of Mark McGwire. Along the way
you will learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Civil War, the
1904 World’s Fair, and the civil rights movement. Biographies, art
books, children’s books, guidebooks, songbooks—the history
of Missouri comes to life within these pages! For information about submitting
manuscripts, please contact Lauren Mitchell at 314-746-4556, lmm@mohistory.org.
MHS Press continues to provide readers with Gateway,
the award-winning magazine that reflects on the historical, cultural,
and social issues affecting Missouri and St. Louis. A subscription to
Gateway is one of the many benefits of Missouri Historical Society
membership; single copies are available from the Louisiana Purchase Gift
Shop at the Missouri History Museum, shop@mohistory.org. |
