Looking Foward, the Missouri Historical Society is offering
several programs for both educators and students. The following
is a list of events related to the exhibition.
Bus Tours:
Sites of the 1904 World’s Fair
Grade 5 to Adult
See the sights! Just where in Forest Park was Festival Hall,
the Observation Wheel, the Philippine exhibit? You bring a
busload of students and Yvonne Condon will show you! Come
see the sites of the 1904 World’s Fair. Combine this
with a tour of our World’s Fair Exhibition opening in
May 2004.

The Olympics at the 1904 World’s
Fair
Grade 3 to Adult
Where and when were the first Olympics games on U.S. soil
held? Give up? They were in St. Louis, Missouri during the
1904 World’s Fair. Guided by Olympic historian June
Wuest Becht, discover what the Olympics were like in 1904
and how and why the event has changed.
Two 45-minute presentations to classes of
30 or less, or one 60-minute presentation for 60 to 150 students

World’s Fair Then and Now
Grade 7 to Adult
Meet me at the Fair! Fill the exuberance as the world descends
upon Forest Park. Bring plenty of imagination, as Yvonne Condon
interprets photographs from the 1904 World’s Fair, you
can almost hear the amazement of the crowd.

Archeology of the World’s Fair
Grade 4 to Adult
Unearth the tales and artifacts of the 1904 World’s
Fair! What happened to the statues, the buildings, and the
Ferris wheel after the close of the Fair? Archeologist Dr.
Carol Diaz-Granados answers these questions in her fascinating
slide talk based on 12 summers of excavation work in Forest
Park.

Rags to Riches to Rags: Scott Joplin
For grades 5 to Adult
Enter the world of Scott Joplin and ragtime music! Master
storyteller Blake Travis presents an entertaining tale of
the music that was all the rage on the 1904 World's Fair Pike.
Hear the music behind the man and his story recreated by Blake
and his accompanist. Get an inside look at the life of this
talented and gifted man.
